But think about U.S., Canada, Mexico, China \u2026 There will be fighting, and that will have consequences,\u201d he said, speaking to CNBC\u2019s Sara Eisen on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div>\n<p>Trump\u2019s 25% tariffs\u00a0on aluminum and steel imports took effect Wednesday, with the EU, Australia and Canada among the regions and countries affected.\u00a0U.S. markets have been in turmoil\u00a0over the duties this week.<\/p>\n<p>Dalio said the current environment is \u201can extension of the patterns of history\u201d \u2014 giving 1930s Germany as an example.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div>\n<p>There was a hike in tariffs to boost revenue and a buildup of the country\u2019s domestic base as well as a writedown of debt at the time, Dalio said. \u201cBe nationalistic, be protectionistic, be militaristic. That is the way these things operate,\u201d Dalio said. \u201cThe issue is really the confrontation of all of this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Salesforce\u00a0CEO Marc Benioff described reciprocity between countries as \u201cgood\u201d if they treat each other the same way.
