Gene Hackman<\/a> and Betsy Arakawa\u2019s bodies remain unclaimed<\/a> weeks after they were found dead in their Santa Fe home.<\/p>\n

Hackman and his wife Arakawa,\u00a0were found dead<\/a>\u00a0along with one of their\u00a0dogs<\/a>\u00a0at their New Mexico property on February 26.<\/p>\n

A pathologist concluded\u00a0Hackman\u00a0died aged 95 of heart disease\u2014with Alzheimer\u2019s playing a significant role\u2014a week after Arakawa died<\/a>, aged 65, from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare infectious disease.<\/p>\n

Their bodies have since been taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in New Mexico, where they remain unclaimed.<\/p>\n

Hackman and Arakawa, under her married name, were listed as \u2018unclaimed decedents\u2019, according to a list posted by the Medical Examiner on March 24.<\/p>\n

According to their website<\/a>, this list is updated every Monday and Friday, though an update for March 28 has not yet been published at the time of writing.<\/p>\n

A source from the Medical Examiner told TMZ<\/a> that this is not necessarily unusual, however, as it could be because the family<\/a> are still making funeral arrangements.<\/p>\n

It comes after reports Hackman\u2019s $80million (\u00a362m) estate<\/a>\u00a0could now be inherited by his three children\u2014Christopher, 65, Elizabeth, 62, and 58-year-old Leslie\u2014despite none being named in his will.<\/p>\n

His will, last updated in 2005, named only Arakawa as the beneficiary. But with her death preceding his, the estate may now be subject to intestate succession laws.<\/p>\n

California attorney Tre Lovell told the BBC: \u2018The estate will actually be probated in accordance with intestate succession laws, and the children would be lawfully next in line to inherit.\u2019<\/p>\n

Hackman \u2013 who was last pictured in 2024 \u2013 and Arakawa tied the knot in December 1991, after dating for around seven years.<\/p>\n

The Unforgiven superstar was discovered dead in the mudroom at their property while the musician was in a bathroom with one of their dogs.<\/p>\n

Officers confirmed that they had been \u2018dead for some time\u2019, with their bodies showing signs of decomposition and mummification.<\/p>\n
