According to the legal team, this official document was not presented during the initial trial and could have significantly influenced the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"16w6duj\" data-start=\"3408\" data-end=\"3458\">A conviction with major political consequences<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3460\" data-end=\"3728\">In May 2023, the Court of Appeal sentenced Sonko to a six-month suspended prison term and ordered him to pay 200 million CFA francs in damages. The ruling ultimately disqualified him from running in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3730\" data-end=\"3855\">The defense now claims that the absence of the IGF report created a \u201cserious doubt\u201d regarding the validity of the conviction.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"1ezhyoc\" data-start=\"3857\" data-end=\"3886\">Amnesty law not a barrier<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3888\" data-end=\"4178\">Lawyers also dismiss the argument that the amnesty law nullifies the appeal.
