The Director General of the Deposit and Consignment Fund responded to his critics in a combative statement, citing fifteen years of service at the institution and his unwavering commitment to Ousmane Sonko.

DAKAR — Fadilou Keïta, Director General of the Deposit and Consignment Fund (CDC), delivered a forceful statement aimed at his critics, revisiting his professional career while reaffirming his political commitment to Pastef.

Seniority Claimed as a Legitimacy Argument

Responding to criticism questioning his appointment, the Director General emphasized that he is not a newcomer to the institution. “I have worked at the CDC since 2011. I’ve done 15 years of service at this company. I was hired on March 11, 2011, as a financial analyst,” he stated, noting he was recruited under the leadership of Alioune Sall, brother of former President Macky Sall.

Drawing on this seniority, he argued that his professional record cannot be called into question, regardless of any potential change in the institution’s leadership. “Even if I’m fired from my position as director, I will remain at the CDC,” he asserted.

A Past as an Opposition Figure Highlighted

The Director General also recalled his political engagement under the previous administration, stating he had been active in the opposition while already working at the CDC. “I was employed at the CDC while opposing Macky Sall’s regime, and they could do nothing against me. We managed to resist Macky Sall,” he maintained, adding: “Nothing has changed regarding our commitment to Pastef. No one can buy my dignity.”

Renewed Support for Sonko and the Current Government

Fadilou Keïta concluded his remarks by reaffirming his loyalty to the Pastef leader. He emphasized that “this government was established by Pastef” and that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye had been brought to power by the party.

“Bassirou Diomaye Faye was chosen to be President of the Republic, and if I had been chosen, I would be too,” he stated, before asserting that “President Ousmane Sonko is still here, standing firm.”

He further claimed that party members remain mobilized behind their leader: “No one can divert us from our commitment to stand behind Sonko. Pastef fears no one politically.”

A Statement Sparking Mixed Reactions

This public statement comes amid a broader debate, including within civil society, over the position of senior officials appointed under the former administration who remain in office under the current one. Fadilou Keïta’s remarks generated significant reaction on social media, with some users calling on him to resign for the sake of consistency with his statements, while others praised his professional record at the institution.
