THIÈS — A case involving sexual relations between a 14-year-old schoolgirl and a 23-year-old mechanic led to the filing of a complaint at the Nguinth police station in Thiès on March 28, 2026.

The facts were discovered fortuitously when the teenager’s mother found two used emergency contraception boxes in her daughter’s bag. Alerted by her daughter’s repeated absences and school tardiness, she had decided to check her belongings.

Regular Relations Since December 2025

According to investigation elements, the minor allegedly maintained a relationship with the suspect, identified by the initials A.M., since December 2025. Interrogations revealed that unprotected sexual intercourse allegedly took place several times in the young man’s room, located in the Nasrou neighborhood.

After each encounter, the accused allegedly gave the teenager an emergency contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy.

Legal Incapacity to Consent

During her interrogation, the minor stated she was consenting and had feelings for the suspect. However, the consent of a 14-year-old person has no legal value under Senegalese law, which sets the age of sexual consent at 16.

A requisition for medical examinations was transmitted to the director of the Thiès regional hospital as part of the case investigation.

Suspect Placed in Custody

When questioned by investigators, A.M. acknowledged the facts, stating that he was unaware of the victim’s minor status. This argument did not prevent his placement in police custody on charges of pedophilia, rape, and corruption of a minor.

The investigation continues to shed full light on this case, which raises questions about the protection of minors and the prevention of such situations.
